The Hudson Valley, known for its beautiful scenery and American historical locales, is not merely a popular tourist spot but also home to year round residents living in lovely, serene neighborhoods. Many folks have passed through the Valley on their way to Manhattan, but if you’re looking for a picturesque place to settle down, the Hudson Valley has lots to offer the prospective buyer.

Reaching from the outskirts of New York City up into central New York State, the approximately 175 mile Hudson River Valley is divided into three areas. The Upper Hudson Valley, also called the capital region, contains the New York capital city of Albany as well as the cities of Greene and Columbia. The counties of Dutchess, Ulster and Orange comprise the Mid-Hudson Valley region, and just below, Westchester and Rockland populate the Lower Valley.

One of the Hudson Valley’s chief attractions is the presence of American and native history. Dutch settlers were the first Europeans in the region, landing as early as 1610, and their presence is still felt in the cultural traditions of the region. When the Dutch arrived, the area was populated by the Mohican and Munsee tribes of Indians, known jointly as the River Indians. Later on, the Hudson River and the Hudson River Valley played significant roles in colonial wars and the emergence of industry following the completion of the Erie Canal.

The beauty and fertile ground of the Hudson River Valley is possibly what brought native peoples to the area way back when, and is what continues to draw tourists and prospective homebuyers now. Thirty miles of the east bank of the Hudson River has been named a National Historic Landmark, which not only recognizes the significance of the area but also maintains parts of the local environment pristine. Because of the tourist trade in the area and the area’s proximity to New York City, quite a few festivals take place each year. Some are music festivals; others focus on the historic and cultural heritage of the region.

Another attraction for those who relocate to the Hudson Valley is that it is home to some of the safest neighborhoods in the United States. This, added to the picturesque natural environs, the regional heritage and New York City’s lively culture just a few minutes away makes the Hudson River Valley an idyllic spot to settle down with a family or purchase a retirement house.

Having read all about the Hudson Valley, how about looking at Dutchess County real estate at Preserve on the Hudson. The writer Tristan Pundick has expertise in the New York region as well as SEO services with the company ClickResponse.

The American author Stephenie Meyer wrote the Twilight Saga, which consists of four books and is based upon the love affair between a vampire and a human. Beth Swan, the main female character, has relocated to Washington with her father, where she then meets Edward Cullen and his family. The love then rapidly grows between them.

There have been over 42 million copies of the Twilight series sold worldwide since they first became publicly available in 2005. Furthermore, they have been translated into 37 languages to meet worldwide demand.

She was named USA Today’s “Author of the Year” in 2008 and was also the largest selling author of 2008 after selling over 22 million books. And furthermore, in 2009 she was included in the Forbes Celebrity 100 list and entered at number 26. Its all great stuff for Stephenie Meyer!

Okay, so how did the idea for Twilight come about?

Well, back in 2003, the idea was merely a dream. But as some of us know and some of us have yet to find out, dreams can be incredibly powerful, and can come to be reality. This particular dream was about a young couple who fell in love. Nothing new there then, but the difference with this dream was that one of the young lovers was a vampire.

And for any of you out there who are aspiring writers but feel you do not have enough experience to really get anywhere; well, Stephenie Meyer wrote her dream out and it was published within three months. How is that for a great example to follow?

On completion of the novel she joined up with a publishing house ” Little, Brown and Company and agreed to a three book deal which earned her $ 750,000. After which, the book was released in 2005.

Stephenie soon went on to write a further three novels after gaining huge success with the first. New Moon was published in 2006, Eclipse then published in 2007 and finally Breaking Dawn in 2008.

Its all change from now though as the last book to be published – Breaking Dawn, is thought to be the last one to be told from the point of view of the lead female character. Its now Edward Cullen’s turn. The next book is Midnight Sun.

Unfortunately due to a leak of 12 drafted chapters onto the internet, Stephenie Meyer decided not to release Midnight Sun when it was initially planned to be.

So, how about the inspiration behind Stephenies’ creation? Well, as is often the case, Jayne Eyre by Charlotte Bronte ” the English novelist of the mid 19th century is among her favorites along with Anne of Green Gables written by L.M. Montgomery the early 20th century Canadian novelist were both highly instrumental in her thinking. Having said this though, each book in the Twilight series was inspired by a different specific novel:

Twilight was inspired by Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice

New Moon: Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

Eclipse ” Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights

Breaking Dawn ” Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream and A Merchant of Venice

All of these authors being traditional English authors.

Joseph Archibald writes a lot about Stephenie Meyer . At his website you can keep up with all the Stephenie Meyer Twilight reviews and gossip.

How many times do we read a bunch of food stories from BuzzFeed or The Condé Nast Traveller? It’s probably one every day or if we are not that really a foodie, a few every week. Stories of food depravity don’t really cross our minds. Isn’t it? India is home to 194.6 million undernourished people, the highest in the world as reported by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. This makes up 15% of our population. But the facts about under-fed and hungry kids are way more alarming. While the report did state that the number of underweight children declined from 49.2 per cent in 1990 to 30 per cent in 2013, it’s just not enough. Unless every NGO in India strives to feed every child in India, this situation wouldn’t improve.

There indeed have been improvements through the mid-day meal scheme, tax exemptions to NGOs and various other efforts of the government to feed children in India. Yet one in every four kids is malnourished. Take for instance, in a family of four kids, one kid is probably going without food often.

Let’s take a look at some facts about Indian children:

– About 27 million children are born each year in India.
– Every fifth child in the world is Indian
– India has 440 million children – more than the population of North American states
– Nearly 2 million of these children do not live to the age of five. Reason? Malnourishment.

So how are we feeding these children? It’s disturbing enough that 3,000 children in India are dying every day from poor diet-related ailment. To top that, 24% of world’s under-five deaths are happening in India with lack of food being a major cause. Unfortunately, our higher economic growth has somehow not yielded higher food consumption or better diets. So while overall our rate of malnourished children has declined, we are failing to attempt greater things for feeding the hungry. Wonder if one should be happy that we saved 70% of our children from malnourishment or sad that 30% of them are still under danger?

The need of the hour is to lend a helping hand to fight against world hunger. Each one of us has the power to make a huge difference by supporting in our own little ways by participating in charity fundraising. A small contribution of Rs 750 can put a child through an academic year filled with nutritious mid-day meals in school. Feed the hungry child with one full year of healthy and wholesome meals, and it will go a long way for a child who might have mid-day meal as the only proper meal in his/ her entire day. If this rings a bell with you, donate to The Akshaya Patra Foundation now!
Akshaya Patra is a not for profit organization that runs a mid-day meal programme providing 1.5 million meals to school students across 10 states in India. Join the movement now!

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is an NGO which serves mid-day meals to school children so that no child in India misses the opportunity to attend school due to hunger.

The 4th of July is a time to be spent with family and friends, yet one particular group seems be easy to forget. Many seniors spend the holiday alone and this can make for a rather lonely celebration. Everyone deserves to enjoy the spectacle of fireworks on the 4th of July. It is important to remember the old adults in your life be they parents, grandparents, friends, or neighbors. It doesn’t matter whether they live in nursing homes in Michigan or next door, we should strive to include them and here are a few tips on how to do that.

Many cities have a fireworks display at night, but they also have activities during the day. There are fun things to do from festivals or concerts to a fair with rides and other festivities for the whole family to enjoy. These are a wonderful way for the whole family to have fun while your elderly friends or family can partake as well. Sometimes just spending time with the grandchildren is enough to please.

You could get with grandparents or elderly neighbors and create festive decorations and crafts. This is a great way to do something at home that is both in the spirit of the holiday and can involve the children to spend time with their grandparent. You can even create holiday cards to send to friends, cousins, or other family who are not nearby to show that you are thinking of them on the holiday.

If you simply cannot be with your older adult for whatever reason these are some ideas to let them know you care and wish them the best. Giving them a potted plant with a n American flag stuck in it or even a some delicious red and blue jello can brighten their day and ease the loneliness. Take some sparklers and spend a little time with that elderly couple next door or even take them or your older adult out for a hot dog before or after the holiday. A little cheer in someone’s life does wonders. Ask your older adult to share their most memorable 4th of July memory, this is a great way to have a conversation and learn more about your loved ones.

Everyone loves the holidays and for some the 4th of July is a favorite. Putting effort into ensuring that your older adults are included or at least thought about can go a long way. Many feel that they have no one to share the special time of the year with and reminding them that someone cares can be a big deal. If all else fails remember that red, white, and blue carnations are festive and always a good choice to send to that someone you care about. Nursing homes in Michigan know what it’s like to deal with lonely elderly adults and many of these tips are used everywhere to help ease the minds of residents. We all care for our family and it is important to show it from time to time.

As the world becomes more and more overcrowded and cities of concrete have evolved to become our natural habitat, the eco-tourism industry has exploded. Eco tourism is a form of tourism focused around natural activities such as scuba diving, rock climbing, and horseback riding. Mexico has been at the forefront of the eco-tourism industry for years and has successfully developed several eco-tourism based vacation destinations, the latest of which is the Costa Maya.

If you haven’t heard of the Costa Maya, it’s a name that will no doubt become as well known as Cancun or Cozumel in the near future. Like Cancun and Cozumel, the Costa Maya region is located along the Caribbean Sea in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula. But unlike Cancun, the nightclubs, bars, and skyscraping hotels aren’t part of the development plan for the Costa Maya. Instead, the majority of the 57 mile long Costa Maya will be gently developed to retain its Caribbean coastal beauty.

Majahual, located toward the southern tip of the Costa Maya, is where most of the structural tourism development is taking place. Once a small, sleepy fishing village, Majahual is now a major focus of the Mexican government’s efforts to promote eco-tourism in the area. Like the Mexican government’s former tourism expansion projects in Cancun and Playa del Carmen, the once sleepy village is quickly growing into a nature-inspired resort town.

The name “Costa Maya” literally means, the Mayan Coast. Remnants of this enchanting ancient Mayan culture can be found all over the Yucatan peninsula. There are 5 different Mayan ruin sites located in or near the Costa Maya that will make you feel as if you’ve taken a step back in time. Other natural adventures include a visit to the numerous freshwater cave pools called ceynotes, beachside horseback riding, and fishing excursions.

Running parallel to the Costa Maya coastline is the Meso American Reef, the largest coral reef in the Northern Hemisphere. The warm Caribbean weather and crystal clear waters make snorkeling and scuba diving along the reef an absolutely breathtaking experience. After immersing yourself in the slow motion world of the colorful Caribbean fish, sea turtles, and anemones, you may leave the Costa Maya with a new hobby – or decide never to leave at all.

Perhaps the most exciting opportunity in the Costa Maya is the real estate investment potential. The Costa Maya is one of the last remaining stretches of unexploited coastal land anywhere in the Caribbean. Part of the Mexican government’s investment in the area included brining power and water to this stretch of beachfront, now zoned for residential living. As the eco-tourism industry in the Costa Maya has grown, so too have the real estate values. At this point in the area’s development, beachfront lots are still selling for as little as $ 50,000 US dollars and are expected to sell for values in excess of $ 1 million in 10 to 15 years.

If you’re starting to feel run down by deadlines, schedules, and traffic jams, an eco-tourism adventure in the Costa Maya may be just the thing to revive your spirits. Perhaps you’ll find even more than a week-long adventure and stake a permanent claim to your own little slice of Caribbean paradise.
