Documentation is an important part of your trip while traveling outside the US. Beyond the borders of the US and even your own state you and your luggage are identified by your documents. Carrying proper documents and proof of identity are a necessary step in ensuring a good trip.

The best international travel tip is to carry the original copy of some documents and keep one or two photocopies of the other in case of emergency. You should also leave a copy of your documents with some friends, which they can fax to you if you lose yours. Ask your travel agent or friends who have gone to those destinations about the necessary travel tips for documents.

Whether you are on fun, business or a personal trip, the important documents required while traveling outside US are: Passport, Visa, Driving License, Medical Certificates and Insurance documents. A passport is an internationally recognized travel document that verifies the identity and nationality of the bearer.

For most countries a visa is mandatory to travel there. Only if you have a valid visa and a return air ticket for the country of travel will you be allowed to get on the plane. Not many countries grant American citizens free passage. Nevertheless, it is essential that you carry valid identification in these countries so that you can prove who you are in case of an emergency and help to avoid any troubles with the law.

A Visa is a document issued by a country’s government that allows the bearer to enter or leave a host country. Most countries require a visa before you can travel there. You cannot board an aircraft unless you have a valid visa and return ticket, and few countries allow US citizens free passage without a visa. It is necessary as valid proof of identification and should be carried with you at all times in case of an emergency. A visa requires a visit to the destination country?s embassy or nearest consulate. For some countries the visa application takes some time to process, so it?s necessary to apply for a visa well in advance to avoid last minute problems.

When carrying valuable or electronic items it is a good idea to keep a copy of the invoice, any insurance, as well as the operating manuals when traveling. The invoice and insurance serve as proof of ownership while the manuals come in handy with technicians if a problem occurs with the equipment. These documents also enable you to take advantage of international warranties and service locations.

Most countries require the foreign tourists covered up with insurance before they enter the country. However, insurance during travel is a critical issue due to legal differences between two countries. Contact your insurance company to find if the present insurance covers the foreign trips or not. Even your travel agent can help you with important travel insurance tips.

When Mick Jagger thick-lipped lead singer of the Rolling Stones (affectionately also known as the Strolling Bones) finishes a world tour, where does he head to relax? He heads for the stunning Touraine region in the centre of France in a sleepy little backwater where he can relax with his family and friends preferring the simple life.

Poce-sur-Cisse is well placed being only 220 kilometres from Paris on A10. And just 25 kilometres from the village is the Tours airport, where a private, three-person taxi-plane whisks Jagger from London in 70 minutes. The area is also handy for the high speed TGV, which zooms into Tours or its satellite station, St-Pierre-des-Corps, in 62 minutes from Paris’s Gare Montparnasse.

The little village is incredibly quaint with a population of around 1600 people. If you blink it is easy to miss Poce-sur-Cisse. There is the Marie as usual, a little white church, a newsagent, two hairdressers, baker, hotel, two pharmacies, and pizzeria. In the middle is an impressive 15th century chateau set out in a gorgeous park. This one is not Sir Mick’s. A discreet sign indicates the way to La Fourchette.

Twenty six years ago he and Jerry Hall his then wife purchased a beautiful 16th century chateau for a mere 2 million francs (roughly 200,000 pounds inflation aside) in a tiny village called Poce-sur-Cisse a few kilometres from Amboise on the north side of the Loire River. His chateau, La Fourchette was originally the property of Louis XV’s finance minister the Duc de Choiseuil.

Apparently the singer fell in love with this region when he came here camping with his parents in the 1950s. It is his favourite second residence. Probably not only for the relaxed lifestyle he gets to enjoy here, but also because of how handy it is to New York and London.

It is not at all surprising that Jerry wanted La Fourchette as part of the divorce settlement but she did not get it.

His guests at La Fourchette have included Tina Turner, Paul McCartney, Roman Polanski and David Bowie. The last Rolling Stones album was recorded at La Fourchette and the band members where all regulars in the village for a while.

He is known to the locals as Sir Mick, Le Seigneur de Fourchette, Dr. Jagger, le pere Mick, sexy papy British, Sir Jagger, Mick de Fourchette, le pape du rock, le pape du rock and Mister Mick. He is the Touraine’s best hard to find attraction. He is popular with the locals and is quietly protected. The locals are loath to discuss him with strangers. I doubt if he would have been able to find any village in America or England, which would not have cashed in on his association with Rolling Stone paraphernalia and merchandise splattered everywhere.

The Peter Pan of Rock has integrated nicely into French country life and he competently engages local upholsterers, plumbers, electricians and mechanics. He even fronts up to the local Bricomarche (DIY store) to be served by blushing giggling young girls.

He has also been known to play cricket for Saumur when he is at La Fourchette.

In spite of his wealth, his glamourous friends and his reputation, he is mostly seen at the wheel of a fairly downmarket Opel station wagon, a tiny Nissan Micra or his old 505 Peugeot.

Art historian, John Richardson commented: “I’ve stayed with Mick at his chateau, La Fourchette, and that’s where you see a very different Mick. He got Alvilde Lees-Milne to lay out a marvellous formal walled garden and he became completely part of the garden, knew every single thing about all the plants, the flowers, the way the fruit trees were espaliered. There is nothing contrived about his wonderful country-house life. Big trestle tables under the chestnut trees, with nanny and kids at one end and adults at the other – the children having buns, the adults smoking. Absolute paradise. I remember Mick was training for one of his tours there too – he used a dead straight local stretch of country road so he could practise running backwards very fast. You would see a French farmer resting on his shovel or his hoe, watching the head of Mick Jagger above the hedge going back and forth, very fast, backwards.”

You too can live like Mick Jagger if you want. You can rent a french chateau in the gorgeous Loire valley exclusively for a holiday for a relaxing week or a weekend with family and friends, gyrating optional.

Saint Patricks Day is a worldwide religious observance that is held every year on March 17th. It is called that in honor of the Irish’s most well known patron saint, St. Patrick and occurs on his purported day of death. Patty’s Day began as an Irish religious holiday but eventually became an internationally secular holiday regarding the country’s culture. St Patricks Day celebrations in the US are mostly the same as observances in other parts of the world and began in Boston.

Patrick the saint was born and subsequently raised in Britain and then kidnapped to an island in Ireland. After escaping his captors, Patrick returned to his home country and became a priest. In the year 432, he traveled back to Ireland in order to teach Christianity there. In his most famous teaching method he used large shamrocks to explain the Trinity to the locals. The man died after over thirty years of teaching on the 17th of March.

The celebration is notably known for being one of the only holidays which is globally observed. And maybe nobody celebrates more excitedly, besides Ireland, than that of America. In the mid seventeen hundreds, the town of Boston held the globe’s first St Patrick’s Day parade which consisted generally of Irish descendants making a political statement regarding their unfortunate low social status. By the late seventeen hundreds, many other United colonies were also hosting their own parades. George Washington even let his Irish born soldiers to have the day off on March seventeenth in order for them to show unity with their fighting brothers.

In New York, Ireland patriotism quickly increased throughout the years. Likewise, interest in the town’s Paddy’s Day parade as well as the holiday itself started to increase as well. Currently, New York City’s St Patty’s Day parade is the biggest in the United States and one of the biggest on the planet.

Aside from the parades, the international holiday is honored by major sports associations as well. Nearly all major baseball teams wear green uniforms during their training in the holiday’s observance and many NBA teams wear green colored versions of their team uniforms.

In 1991, the US congress declared March to be Irish American Heritage Month. Today, the popular holiday is celebrated by nearly all American citizens regardless of their heritage. Unlike most of the observances in Ireland, US celebrators tend not to recognize the holiday’s namesake. Instead the day is filled with the color green and an enormous amount of alcohol.

Irregardless of whether or not they understand the meaning for it, citizens who observe St Patrick’s day tend to wear lots of green. Many big cities dye their parade routes and color their rivers bright green. For last few years, the capitol’s White House even colors the water in their front fountain green too. Green hats and clothes are also donned and those who don’t conform are customarily pinched for a punishment.

Another major element of the day is the beer. Saint Patrick’s Day is definitely one of the craziest days of the year for many bars and restaurants and one the highest days for beer consumption. In staying with the traditions, most beers are dyed with lots of green food coloring too.

One of the greatest adventures of any family vacation is trying out the food of the region. Educating yourself a bit before travelling will help make this part of the visit something to plan for and look forward to. If your children are older, you could consider borrowing some cookbooks from your local library and actually cooking up some authentic food of your destination. That way, when you eat the real thing, you can compare your culinary skills to those of the locals.

Like most countries, the food in Costa Rica is influenced by several cultures. European, South American and even some African influences can be found depending on the region to which you are travelling.

Food and dining is an important part of the social make up of Costa Rica. It is considered an important time to meet and chat with family and friends. Perhaps this explains why appetizers play a very important role at every meal and are often provided free with meals. Some of the most common appetizers include salads, often made with seafood or beans, empanadas and tamales. Salads are served with most meals and are generally made of cabbage, tomatoes, peppers and onions dressed with lemon juice and herbs.

Beans, particularly kidney beans are a favourite among Costa Ricans and are included in many of the salads, soups and main dishes of the region. They are often combined with rice, beef and chicken to create very hearty and healthy dishes. If your family enjoys stews and pots of thick nourishing chilli, they will most likely enjoy these dishes of Costa Rica. Some of the most common soups include cod soup, bean soup, meatball soup and tortilla soup.

One of the most interesting foods to enjoy in Costa Rica is Yucca. It is used there much like potatoes are used here. The kids are sure to enjoy Yucca chips, Yucca fries and even mashed Yucca with gravy to accompany a chicken dinner!

Your Costa Rica vacation doesn’t have to be without a sweet indulgence or two, either. Let the kids try chewing on a piece of sugar cane for a new twist on dessert, and many varieties of sweet thick native fruit juices are readily available.

A somewhat lesser known fact that can be interesting to the grownups on vacation is that Costa Rica also produces some of the world’s most flavourful coffees. So now that you know, you can sit back and relax after a hearty local meal with a cup of rich aromatic java!

As a matter of fact, it looks like you can always find Costa Rican sipping coffee around you. They just love it. And if you’re a coffee lover yourself, you’ll feel like you’re in paradise here. But let me give you a warning: after trying the “real deal”, you’ll never be happy at a Starbucks again.

Most important of all, be adventurous and be willing to try something new. You may just discover a new favourite dish that you’ll continue to make even after your vacation is over!

1. Labrador Retriever

Most retriever breeds make a wonderful hunting dog and the Labrador might just be the ultimate hunting dog. They have bundles of energy, a nice cold-weather coat meant for the long days outdoors and they will go to great lengths to retrieve your kill. They are known to be the best duck hunting dog and they can also be used for any type of small game. Labs come in all different colors, black, yellow, chocolate, white, red and silver. People say that one color of labs is better for certain kind of hunting but if you train them well enough they are going to perform just the way you like. Labs also make great family pets as well.

2. Pointer

The Pointer is known as the Cadillac of bird dogs, prized for it’s speed, ability to go all day in the field, stand steady to wing and shot, which means the pointer holds it’s position as birds rise into the sky and guns go off and their personable nature. They are very easy to train, along with their intelligence and prey driven. The Pointer also makes for a loving family pet as their energy lets them play with the children all day and alert nature makes them excellent watchdogs.

3. Coonhound

If you are looking for a hunting dog that will go with you through all conditions and terrain types, this might be the companion for you. Their noses are always to the ground sniffing out their primarily prey, which is the raccoon but also the mountain lions, bears, deer and other game. The Coonhound will bark up when his quarry is treed. They have the ability to pick up and follow an old trail, no matter how faint. They have a lot of energy, prey driven, intelligent, tendency to bark or howl a lot and general are healthy.

4. Chesapeake Bay Retriever (nicknamed the Chessie)

They were originated as a water dog used to hunt and retrieve ducks in the chilly chop of Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. It’s sturdy build, dense coat, stamina and strength made them ideal. They have excellent noses but can have stubborn streaks. Chessies are friendly, outgoing and obedient, although they have a mind of their own. Between the Chessie’s strength and smarts, they can easily overpower an unprepared owner. Chessies often has an excellent rapport with children, but they don’t tolerate abuse from the children and will likely get up and leave the situation if possible.

5. American Foxhound

The American Foxhound was bred with the purpose of hunting foxes and are still very much up to that task. They will pretty much chase down anything you tell them to. They like the company of other dogs but can be a single companion dog if you’re committed to giving them the exercise they need. The Foxhound is musical and they are described as having a bell-like voices and their baying can carry for miles. So if you don’t like a barking dog, Foxhounds are probably not going to work for you.

Depending on what you are going to be hunting, all these dogs are perfect for the hunt. Just remember you need to put in the training to make them what you need them to be. Without the training they are just another dog living with you.

Joe Redington, “Father of the Iditarod” looks over his supplies at the checkpoint. One arctic parka, one heavy sleeping bag, an ax, a pair of snowshoes, musher food and dog food, as well as dog boots to protect the feet of the Siberian Husky team. He concocts a strategy in his mind for when to feed the dogs their meals and when to feed them their snacks. Should he travel by day or travel by night? When and how much should they rest?

Every musher has a different technique, but unexpected blizzards, dog sicknesses, a slip into the icy river or losing the course could all threaten their time. The challenge is to cover 1,150 miles in 10 – 17 days with 12-16 dogs heading from Anchorage, Alaska to Nome. This race is sometimes called “The Last Great Adventure” but most importantly, it’s an Alaskan adventure and a part of history and pride.

One needn’t be a die-hard racer to love the Siberian Husky. Sure, these dogs are clearly bred for racing. Their slender, agile frames shout “long distance runner,” while their thick double coat and heavily padded feet exude “endurance.” This breed is incredibly resilient, requiring little food and little sleep, but demands exercise and attention.

The Alaskan Husky likes to dig, loves to run and enjoys the hunt. Smaller dogs, cats and other animals may become prey for this wolf-like dog, so they function best with similar-sized dogs of the opposite sex and the companionship of the whole family. Early obedience classes will help these native Alaskan dogs be all they can be and it should be understood that positive reward works best for these docile and devoted animals.

Siberian Huskies are a popular show dog at the American Kennel Club. If you’re looking to enter your Alaskan Husky in the show, then the most important characteristics are medium size (23″ males, 22.5″ females), moderate bone structure, well balanced proportions, ease of movement, well-groomed/colored coat, pleasing head and ears, correct tail and good disposition. Penalties are doled out for clumsiness, stubbornness, excessive weight or a coarse coat. In other words, the Husky should exude “powerful endurance and agility.” The Siberian Husky Club of America provides more information on show dogs.

The lifespan of a Siberian Husky is 12 – 16 years. Sight problems are one of the most common health ailments, with juvenile cataracts, corneal dystrophy and progressive retinal atrophy affecting some older dogs. As with many larger breeds, hip dysplasia can be found and sled dogs may come down with gastric disease, bronchitis or “ski asthma.” If you take your dog to the vet regularly and ensure proper feeding/exercise, then your dog should live a long, healthy life.
